1.3 a.g.f. historyFrom: Sande
[Ed. Note: This is not the final word on the history of the newsgroup, but Sande remembers it better than anyone IMO. She says she'll post more a.g.f. history on her website someday!]Who was there in the beg. and stuck around? Well, there were people from a.g. who are still here. At first, there wasn't much cross-over because a.g.f. wasn't universally wanted. Some on a.g. didn't want to split the newsgroup, while others felt happier that hair dye and pointy boots questions would have a place to go. Alt.gothic was getting larger and sometimes, a.g.f. became like a.g.II, but still kept pretty much on on-topic. Also, it seemed that there weren't a lot of newsreaders carrying a.g.f. So, comfortably, there were about 10 new posts a week.
From what I remember, the people who came to hang around and stay in a.g.f. were Trystan, Cairo, Katydid, Siani, eloquence, Ligeia, and Vlad. This is a while ago so I might not have the precise times when people came on and people went away. By that time, I had already met Katydid and Siani on a.g. I promoted a.g.f. on a.g. in a way by just asking the people w/hair dye and pointy boot ?s to come here. I remember gnat, Heidi Evans, and phaqt. At first, a lot was X-posted to alt.gothic and the first thread that really generated a lot of interest and pretty much got a.g.f. to stand on its own was a thread named "What does your room look like?" It had a side thread called "Weaponry" (In fact, on my old files which I deleted later, I came across one by CKDerrick and Petro were discussing how to make a cattle prod). And when Sexbat replied to this thread, I felt that it gave a.g.f. legitimacy (in a way) -- just bec. Sexbat was so revered on a.g. Then I started this thread about books, and this is the thread that Poppy responded to (and Siani left for a while bec. a lot of a.g.f. became abt bks, and she wasn't too keen on that). Also, since we were all on a.g. and a.g.f., the discussion would meander to other threads, some on a.g. and some on a.g.f. Trystan compiles the FAQ. Siani and I write the a.g.f. AD guidelines.
Here we go into a long stretch of time, in which the gundy saga was written, X-posted to a.g. [ed. note: complete gundy tales are avail. on Sande's website]. It started with a thread "Looking was Skin Whiteners" (or such).
Persephone (who knew Cairo) requested help for her graduate thesis -- she was doing something on goth and it was pretty detailed. Christabel, I had seen on a.g. Alright, well, this goes into C3 Vote stvf bec. Siani is still around, so is Katydid and Ray. Mikey designs GGAF! cards based on a design by Moses. Jilli's boss also prints out some little GGAF! flyers. C3 Vote stvf is X-posted to a.g. bec. I'm taking care of the Vote. Asharte disappears. Persephone works on the a.g.f. Tea Party (which later becomes a Convergence event).
Thessaly has been here, but I do not remember when she came on. People come and go, y'see. Sometimes, they reappear. Like Brahmin resurfaced and then posted a good-bye. I went away for a while too, said I would return to a.g.f. and did. GothFaeri comes on, and she is v. enthusiastic bec. she posts frequently. At this time, Moses' posts start to decline. Vips was more of a lurker and never really posted much, but she too, must have left silently. I remember Penny Dreadful coming on a.g.f. and someone complimenting her on her net.name Lady Bathory and Bane are from a.g. and might have been reading from the beg. but I do not recall them as "regulars" in the sense of Who are the people who only read a.g.f. and are posting frequently, because that's what it was fast becoming. It was v. much of a cozy place in the beg., there weren't any flamefests at all and a.g.f. was known for its civility. Twilight from N.O. comes on. Oviri and Primus Lord of the Acalupyse like gundies. Eileen came on, Cairo's posts start to decline, so does Jilli's, there's Ethy! (and the start of the NM net.goth list), these people from AZ (AZ net.goth list). GothFaeri leaves for a while. Rhiannon. Narnia. Artermis. Please forgive me if I don't mention you... I do recognize people when I go thru the posts -- I used to be on the welcoming committee... Lady Greycat, Necroangel enter. Twilight welcomes Daniel. More aol people. This is prob. all out of order... uh, oh well!

Digging through my piles of print-outs, I just found a hard copy of the a.g.f.faq, version 1.0. The version date is October 2, 1995, and it was posted on October 4, 1995. God, I have been around here too long.
