If you want historically influenced clothing, you may want to invest in one of the following catalogs of historical patterns -- AlterYears or Amazon Dry Goods. I always have faster service from AlterYears, but there's a lot of overlap in what patterns each one carries.

The Evolution of Fashion by Margot Hamilton Hill and Peter A. Bucknell is a good source for basic pattern shapes of clothing throughout history. I made my wedding dress based on a pattern in that book.
